Pro-West’s Checklist & Tips for a Proper “Summer Air Conditioner Care”

Pro West • May 30, 2022

Summer is here, the weather is getting warmer… it’s time to turn on that AC but wait…it’s not working?

Here are some Pro-West tips to see what the issue might be!

Check Your Thermostat:
Make sure that your thermostat is turned to Cool. If your thermostat uses batteries, check to see if they require replacement.

Power Play:
If the unit isn’t turning on at all, go to your main electrical panel to see if the breaker has tripped. If it has, reset the breaker. If it immediately trips again once the AC unit is turned on, you should Pro-West as there is likely an underlying problem with the equipment itself.

Check Your Outdoor AC Unit:
Take a look to see that the outdoor portion of the system is in good condition by checking that there isn’t any grass or other debris that may be clogging the AC condenser. Make sure that there is adequate space between the AC unit as well as any buildings, foliage, or fences to allow for proper airflow.

Inspect Your Furnace:
Did you know that your air conditioner relies on the furnace to run even in the summer months? If your furnace is making any unusual noises, that could indicate an issue with the blower motor or other internal parts. Stay tune to our next blog feature about how to troubleshoot your furnace. Be inspect your air filters and replace them if necessary.

Vents:
Check to see that all vents are open and that nothing is blocking them.

Investigate Water Leaks:
If you discover water is leaking from your air conditioning unit, turn it off immediately. This could be the result of a clogged drain line or an issue with your air conditioner. If this occurs, please
Call us right away.

Close Windows & Doors:
Keeping the windows and doors shut while your AC is running is an effective way to stay more comfortable indoors.

Still Experiencing an AC Issue?
If you notice that your unit isn’t cooling your home the way that it used to, or not at all, it could be a variety of more serious issues including but not limited to a problem with your refrigerant level or your evaporator coil. We would strongly recommend you reach out to us as soon as possible to come and diagnose the issue as it will require opening and investigating your system to conduct the required repairs by a trusted licensed HVAC Technician.
